Dr. Galynker is an amazing doctor as well as a good person. He is highly intelligent with exceptional diagnostic skills. He can detect when his patients are “off” and asks questions. He is well versed in the mind, mental health, brain chemistry and what medications to prescribe (and more importantly, what medications will likely cause adverse reactions). He understands people and has a very unique perceptive. He got to know me and remembered what you told him in prior sessions. It was during a difficult time in my life that I met him. The unique “whole family” approach that he has established, although unusual, gives all of us access to him. Seeing him was a game changer.
I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Galynker. He genuinely cares about me and my well being. He changed my life and my family for the better and I will be forever grateful to him.
Dr. Galynker (and his support team) is phenomenal. I came to him during a relationship and depression crisis and also as a survivor of suicide. Both in helping guide me through crisis, manage things in a constructive manner, and develop a deeper understanding of my circumstances — which I think untreated could have have gone off the rails. I’m grateful for his ongoing support!
Have her followed by the Physicians at Family Center for Bipolar for years now. I travel from Staten Island to Manhattan because of the philosophy of this group. The physicians are compassionate, professional and experts in Bipolar Disorder. The family is included in the planning care and are free to call the Practitioners with any concerns they may see in the home environment.
Highly recommend this Bipolar Center for anyone with this diagnosis. Thank you for caring for me!
After several decades of trying to find a sustainable treatment of my bipolar disorder, I settled with the notion that it will never happen. As a professional in the field of psychology, I would often try to imagine what would be the kind of help I am looking for. At some point I was referred to The Galynker Center for Bipolar Disorder center, and specifically Dr.Galynker. Every session with this doctor is our joint quest for my stabilization and ability to be in control of this elusive illness. I would have never imagined such a unique, family oriented approach that Dr.Galynker offers, including daily (!) monitoring, thoughtful tailored treatment, and his amazing accessibility.
At the age of 64, after decades of psychiatric care and still wondering why I couldn’t find more joy in my life on a regular basis, I had the extraordinary good fortune of meeting Dr. Galynker. His capacity to listen, learn, and relate are truly remarkable. His ability to treat a patient is much akin to the way Rachmaninoff treated the keyboard on his piano………with care, consideration, and a mastery of his art. So, for those who are reading this and feeling a sense of despair or hopelessness, I strongly encourage you to at least meet a true virtuoso who could literally change your life.
I am fortunate that I have been treated by the team of doctors and therapists at the Family Center for BiPolar disorder. I’ve been going there for over half a year now, and there’s been a marked turn for the better over that time. I wish I had followed my instincts sooner, a few years back, when I started looking for more help — it would not only have steered me in a better direction sooner, it would have offered more help and hope to my loved ones. When I was beginning to fully accept my condition and understand how much I had to step up treatment, I remember that I initially resisted the Center upon learning that they required the first session HAD to be accompanied by a family member, or someone close in my circle.
But later on, I fully grasped the integrity and wisdom of the request. It can be hard to have perspective with bipolar/adhd conditions unless it’s also seen through someone else’s eyes, someone who knows what it’s been like in real life.
Thus, for that one intial session, the spouse is in a safe place to express her/himself without fear of their partner having an episode re anger or defensiveness.
The first intake is intensive… we met with the doctor and a therapist to talk, then we split up, each of us talking privately , then everyone convened to discuss treatment. Next, In my case, I met the next week with Dr. Nikiforov, who was very calm, clear, pragmatic, and intuitive).
Soon after, the program integrates its support system with their staff of therapists. My therapist was Irina Kopeykina and she was just what I needed…someone kind, warm, very smart, warm and supportive. She asks good question, and she seems to be able make use out of what I say, and also draw out what I may have resisted saying. She LISTENS with care, and suggests or collaborates on positive actions. And if you get too tense, there’s one of those big red rubber balls to kick around.
So, overall, it’s more of a team effort (with therapist conferring with the doctor–that’s very often not the case with treatment). Also, they are skilled on the ADHD front, and effective at pointing out the similarties. Last thing: there’s great art books in the waiting room (but the wait is never long), and the rest of the staff up front are stellar as well.
Dr Nikiforov is a brilliant doctor! I am thankful and grateful to have found him. He is always available, understanding, compassionate, educated and highly knowledgeable in medications. He treats me beyond just my bipolar diagnosis. He understands all aspects of mental health. I would recommend dr.niki to everyone!!!! I wish I found him sooner.
Aside from the modern offices and wonderful staff, The Zirinsky Center is invaluable! After meeting with countless providers, Dr. Nikiforov is tops! He correctly diagnosed my daughter and tweaked her meds so she can be a functioning adult in society. They portray person centered and care conduct a wellness program like no other. Thank You!
Doctor Igor Galynker is a god sent . After three (3) hospitals, piling medications, we lost hope. My husband was getting worse and worse. Medications caused problems walking and multiple falls. Last fall in March of 2019 ended in the emergency room and fear to walk by himself. I was forced to accompany him to all visits, even for a hair cut. First we have learned about Doctor from our internist. Then, we got recommendations from other specialist. They said that Dr. Galynker is “top of the top”. Our first visit was in June of 2019. Dr. Galynker is very attentive, sharp, brilliant minded. All his decisions and suggestions worked. And now after 8 months we see wonderful results. Medications were reduced to minimum. My husband feels much better, he walks by himself everywhere, which is big releaf to me. And everyone says that now he looks like before his disease. We only regret, that we did not know about this wonderful doctor earlier, because this ordeal lasted long 5 years. Thank you, Doctor Galynker. We wish you health and happiness. And we recommend our favorite doctor to everyone, who has similar problems and has doubts.
These people basically saved my life. Incredibly talented. We flew up from Florida just to see them. Psychiatry is so complex- you need the best on your side.
Dr. G is amazing! He helped my husband and I in such a compassionate way but also had stretched us and hold us accountable when needed. He has been available at urgent times making it easier for us. He really cares and we could feel it, making such an impact in our sessions and life. I would highly recommend him and the Center. Feeling so grateful for all his help.
This center is amazing. The doctors viewed me as a person not a disease. I entered at a time of crisis and the staff spent the whole day with me to ensure the diagnose was correct. They also spoke extensively with my mother to establish my baseline since I was a new patient. The doctors also knew that my mother was going to provide care and allowed me to go home vs the hospital.
Our experience with Dr Galynker and the Zirinsky Center of Bipolar Disorders at Mount Sinai/Beth Israel was unique in that we were a family that for the first time was faced with a serious psychiatric problem. The approach of the institute was geared not only toward the patient but was a comprehensive family centered model. In addition, the combination of pharmacological knowledge of Dr Galynker combined with the therapy approach of the other members of the team provided us with not only a reassuring environment but also an education into an area we truly knew not much about and felt quite helpless.
I fully and completely would recommend Dr Galynker and Dr Kazariantz for any family embarking upon this difficult time of their lives.
Dr Galynker is a brilliant psychiatrist with 30+ years of experience who cares deeply about his patients. I came to him a few weeks into my first manic episode after being misdiagnosed by my primary care physician and given the wrong medication by another psychiatrist. On my first visit, Dr Galynker diagnosed me correctly and gave me the right kinds of medication.
One of the initial reasons I chose Dr Galynker is that my girlfriend and I liked the idea of a family-oriented approach. We learned what a great system it is from the very beginning. During the intake evaluation, when I kept rambling off on tangents, my girlfriend was there to give to coherent answers to Dr Galynker’s questions. After the first meeting, he set up a group text where we could ask questions and give updates. Later, when I was hospitalized, Dr Galynker took the time late on the weekend to explain to my girlfriend what would happen and helped allay her concerns.
Bipolar mania is a constantly moving target, and it often requires a bit of experimentation. A good psychiatrist will know how to apply a textbook solution. A great psychiatrist will also know when and how to experiment. When my mania broke through the medication, it had some typical symptoms along with some highly atypical “psychedelic” features. The typical symptoms responded well to the initial dose of medication. Dr Galynker then spent a week texting and calling to make sure the atypical symptoms didn’t get out of control while we adjusted my medications. The experimenting worked. I haven’t had any manic symptoms in almost three months.
If you or a loved one is suffering from bipolar disorder, I highly recommend making an appointment with Dr Galynker
After several years of watching my daughter struggle through ineffective therapists, residential programs, hospitalization, and outpatient programs, we finally got the help we needed from the Family Center for Bipolar Disorders. I believe that fate or a higher power guided me to their website over 2 years ago when I felt that we had no place else to turn.
With extremely knowledgeable and caring doctors & staff, my daughter was finally able to get the help she so desperately needed.
The doctors are willing to Skype with us regularly since we don’t live in NY. And they are always available and responsive to text messages. The doctors understand that a bi-polar disorder requires more than a quick fix and they are more than willing to put in the time & effort to provide continuous and quality care. We have seen tremendous progress in 2 years and I don’t know where we would be without them.
As a family member of a client (who regularly participates in appointments), my experience with Dr. G has been very positive. He is the right combination of care, competence, and accountability. I consider us fortunate to have found him.
Our Family has been seeing Doctor Galynker at the Family Center for Bi-Polar Disorder for the past 2.5 years. The help they have provided has been immeasurable. Where other practitioners failed they provided the treatment and answers we had been seeking for a long time. The “whole” family approach is critical as bi-polar affects the entire group. If anyone is struggling to find help I would highly recommend reaching out to this talented and compassionate group
Excellent care by Dr Nikiforov. He followed through with my son and was available by phone, by text, by Facetime and in person. Got us through a rough period. It’s great to know that as “the mom” I am welcomed to ask questions and be engaged in the process of my son’s long term plan for being well.
The Family Center for bipolar disorder is a superior center that treats bipolar disorder as well as other mental health issues. The director of the program, Dr. Galynker, is a highly trained psychiatrist who provides his patients with caring guidance and counseling. The family approach is the most effective approach for any individual suffering from a mental health problem. Only with the involvement, cooperation and support of family members, can an individual truly improve.
Words can not describe how grateful our family is for finding and working with Dr. Galynker. His approach on family therapy and working together as a team to insure the best treatment for your loved one suffering from Bipolar is the only treatment that works. Therapy is based on the needs of the patient, family and everyone benefits. Dr. Galynker is kind, compassionate and a brilliant doctor and we are fortunate to have found him!
I truly believe the physicians and staff working at the Family Center for Bipolar Disorder including Dr. Nikiforov, Dr. Galynker and Dr. Kazariants, have saved my sons life. If it hadn’t been for their deeply compassionate care and expertise my son would be in the hospital or worse yet, homeless or dead.
They know the science and art of medicine requiring incredible knowledge and intuition to treat a highly variable and difficult disorder.
Our family owes them for saving our sons life and giving him and us the guidance for living it to
It’s fullest despite living with a very severe and debilitating disease.
I highly recommend these physicians and staff and center to anyone or family that suffers from this disorder. I cannot give a higher recommendation to anyone or any other facility as my family and son have been in the mental health system for many years being treated by a wide range of “experts” all who have fallen short of providing adequate treatment.
Dr. Nikiforov is saving my life. I have never received such incredible care from a psychiatrist before. His intelligence and expertise in Bipolar Disorder, medications and beyond is extraordinary. He genuinely cares about my wellbeing and progress, he is extremely attentive when I talk and maintains excellent communication with me and my family members with regards to my condition. I have been seeing psychiatrists for 27 years of my life and I finally found THE absolute BEST there is. His team and staff are absolutely wonderful as well. Everyone in this practice treats me with such respect, as a person who deserves this respect and not just as another patient. I travel over 100 miles (round trip) every week just to see Dr. Nikiforov and I would do it every single day if I had to. He is absolutely amazing and everything a doctor SHOULD be!
I echo the words of the reviewer who felt that a higher power lead the way to The Zirinsky Family Center for Bipolar. Thanks to the knowledgeable and compassionate medical professionals, I am confident that my child’s recovery will be significantly supported. If bipolar is the diagnosis, this is the place to go. It is clearly their specialty, and that manifests itself over and over again. Dr. Nikiforov is an attentive listener who responds to questions in an intelligent and thoughtful way. Dr. Kazariants is also an attentive listener. Both are caring and resolute but at the same time very tactful and sensitive to my family’s concerns. I would be remiss in not mentioning Dr. Galynker, who was great, but we have had less contact with him. Words are inadequate to express our collective heartfelt and profound gratitude. Thank you for your vibrant presence in our lives.
My son’s care has been excellent. Drs. Nikiforov and Kazariants are conscientious, caring, and compassionate practitioners who have helped my son get back on the right track and lead a fulfilling life. Our family is extremely grateful to the Zirinsky center for all they have done for us.
The Galynker Center for Bipolar Disorder is a treatment center that treats bipolar disorder in the context of family. Involving family is critical. Family is always strongly impacted by a loved one’s mental illness, and by bringing family into the treatment, family health, stability and communication can be preserved. Dr. Galynker and the rest of the team are smart, caring, and attentive.
Dr. Nikoforov and his team have been treating my teenage daughter for many months now. They were, and still are, able to help her in the most accute situations and always find the right combinations of both verbal and chemical support.
Dr. Nikoforov has made himself available to us 24/7. His professionalism, experience and attention have been paramount to my daughter’s treatment.
Last spring I entered a severe mixed bipolar episode. I was in a very dark place and hitting one brick wall after another. From the moment Krystel picked up the phone, I knew I was finally going to get the treatment I needed. The initial interview, which was scheduled almost immediately, was the most comprehensive I have ever undergone. Over the years, I have had a few psychiatrists who were well-meaning or who had a grasp on psychiatric pharmacology but none who possessed both qualities. Dr. Nikiforov is the first psychiatrist I have ever worked with who is both compassionate and also a brilliant psychopharmacologist. After over 40 years of coping with severe mental illness, I feel for the first time that I am in truly good hands.
It is the best center for bipolar disorder. Dr. Galynker is very professional, knowlegeble, caring. I choose this center after I had several doctors. I am episodes free for the last 3 years due to the excellent care and treatment provided by Dr. Galynker.
He made himself available any day of the week any time. He is very proactive and attentive. The best doctor I ever had!!!
Excellent doctors, highly recommend it. Dr. Nikki in particular is a kind and caring physician
After researching psychiatrists specializing in bipolar disorder for months, I was incredibly lucky to be given Dr. Galynker’s name from a friend of a friend who lives in New York City. My family has been working with Dr. Galynker at The Galynker Center for Bipolar Disorder for the past year and we could not be more impressed or more grateful for the positive changes he’s affected. I love his unique approach to treating bipolar that includes the whole family in treatment. If you are searching for help with a bipolar disorder and have stumbled across Dr. Galynker’s name or the Galynker Center for Bipolar Disorder, let me be clear: Look no further. You have found the best in the field.
Best treatment option in the NYC tri-state area for Bipolar. After over a decade of shuffling through bad doctors I finally found this place and have stayed with them for a few years now. I travel in monthly from Long Island, it’s worth it despite the distance. Doctors can also do skype or phone checkups if you are too busy to come in. My original doctor, Zimri Yaseen — a fantastic doctor — now works for the FDA on approvals and research into new bipolar medication in D.C, and Konstantin Nikiforov, my new doctor, is excellent as well.
Luckily I met Dr. Galynker about 15 years ago. After having been miss diagnosed a few times and “at my wits end” I took a chance with Dr. Galynker. He put me on right medications and correctly diagnosed me with bipolar disorder. Now many years have passed since I had been hospitalized. I attribute it all to Dr. Galynker and the family center for bipolar disorder. Highly recommend!!!!
