BP Magazine: a resource for those living with bipolar


BP Magazine is a print resource that began in April 2007 with the purpose of educating readers about bipolar disorder. The magazine also supports a website, www.bphope.com, where visitors and members alike can browse current and past issues, as well as share and search advice and information within the online community. Here is a segment from the "Inside BP" section of the website:
"A multi-faceted publication,  bp Magazine includes a range of enlightening and informational articles - from explanations of the history of bipolar (from manic depressive disorder to bipolar disorder, for instance) to the latest relevant policy and research information, health tips for those living with bipolar, and recommendations for family members."
The current issue of BP Magazine contains articles titled, "Hospitalization: setback or reset?", "Someone to lean on", and "Body brio: the buzz on caffeine" among issue staples such as "ResearchLine" and "My Story", where individuals share their own experiences with bipolar disorder. Bipolar Awareness Day 2008

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has announced that this year's annual Bipolar Disorder Awareness Day will be held Thursday, October 9, as part of NAMI's Mental Illness Awareness Week. Established in 1990, Mental Illness Awareness Week is "an opportunity...to work together in communities across the country to achieve the NAMI mission through outreach, education, and advocacy." Stanford hosts 4th annual Bipolar Education Day

The Stanford University Medical Center will be hosting the 4th annual Bipolar Education Day this Saturday, July 26th, "to raise awareness and dispel misconceptions" about bipolar disorder. Event speakers, many of whom are professors as well as experts on bipolar disorder, will discuss topics including advancements in brain imaging research, medication, and psychotherapy treatments in both adult and pediatric bipolar disorder. New York Times highlights bipolar patients

"The Voices of Bipolar Disorder," July 17, 2008

Today's issue of The New York Times' features an article that explores bipolar disorder through the eyes of nine affected individuals. The short article is accompanied by picture slideshows and recorded interviews of each participant as they discuss "their own stories of diagnosis, treatment, struggle and acceptance." Bipolar website offers scholarship to students

Bipolar Lives Scholarship

Bipolar-Lives.com is a website dedicated to educating the public about bipolar through the eyes of Sarah, a middle-aged woman who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2004. The site provides information about bipolar-related scholarships, and recently developed on of their own, the Bipolar Lives Scholarship, that will award $500 to a student studying in the United States.
