SUE BERGESON, PRESIDENT THE DEPRESSION AND BIPOLAR SUPPORT ALLIANCE
Sue Bergeson received her Bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University, and her MBA in Organizational
Development at the University of Michigan and Aurora University. She became President of the Depression
and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA), formerly the National Depressive and Manic-Depressive Association,
in March of 2006, after serving as Vice President since 2000. She has contributed to several
publications including The Physicians Definitive Guide to Mood Disorders, Bipolar for Dummies, Parents
Guide to Depression and the Guide Lines for Adolescent Depression in Primary Care (GLAD-PC) Toolkit.

KATHERINE H. DUHAMEL, Ph.D.
Dr. DuHamel is a health psychologist at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Department of Psychiatry
and Behavioral Sciences. Prior to joining MSKCC, she was the co-director of the Zirinsky Mood Disorders
Center at Beth Israel Medical Center and an assistant clinical professor at Albert Einstein College of
Medicine. Her clinical expertise is in psycho-oncology, stress management, adjustment problems, surgery
preparation, psychological treatment of distress in cancer patients, their family members and caregivers.

PHILLIP D. HARVEY, Ph.D.
Dr. Harvey is Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Chief Psychologist at Mount
Sinai Hospital. He received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from SUNY at Stony Brook. He is the author
of over 275 scientific papers and 300 abstracts and he has written over 25 book chapters. He has given
more than 1,200 presentations at scientific conferences and medical education events. He has edited
five books and written four books on topics of psychological assessment, schizophrenia, and aging.

EDYTH LONDON, Ph.D.
Dr. London, Ph.D. is a neuropharmacologist. She received her Ph.D from University of Maryland
and her postdoctoral degree in psychopharmacology from John Hopkins University. Her primary research
contributions are in the application of brain imaging methods to the study of substance abuse. Over
the last 20 years, her contributions have been mainly in the area of substance abuse, but have included
the development of novel approaches for the study of brain function.

DAVID MIKLOWITZ, Ph.D.
Dr. Miklowitz earned his PHD in psychology from UCLA. He is currently Professor of Clinical Psychology,
and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at University of Colorado, Boulder. He has received
numerous honors and awards for his work in affective disorders. He is one of the nation’s leading
experts on research involving family inclusive and individual interventions for adult and children with
bipolar mood disorders. |
DEBORAH PERLICK, Ph.D.
Dr. Deborah Perlick has studied family stress and coping in bipolar disorder and other psychiatric disorders for
over 20 years and is currently developing intervertions to promote caregiver health and well-being and reduce caregiver
internalization of mental illness stigma. Her research has been supported by the National Institute of Mental Health.
She is currently an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Associate
Director for Family Assessment and Intervention Research at the VISN 3 Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical
Center (MIRECC) based at the Bronx VAMC, and a Board Member of the Mood Disorder Support Group of New York (mdsg/ny).

MARTHA SAJATOVIC, M.D.
Dr. Sajatovic received her MD from Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, OH and became Professor in the
Department of Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. Her major
interests are: Health services, bipolar mood disorders, geriatric psychiatry and women's mental health.
She has had multiple grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Health.
